The Ministry for the Environment and accredited recyclers have teamed up with councils and TV retailers to provide public drop-off points for unwanted TVs. Note: Only Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) TVs are covered – computer monitors are excluded from this scheme. It costs about $25 to recycle a TV but under the scheme you’ll be subsidised so you won’t pay more than $5. Community Fruit Wellington is a small food charity facilitating the picking and redistribution of unwanted or excess fruit to those in need in our community. Many homes have fruit trees that provide an excess of unwanted fruit that goes to waste. This food resource is very needed by many in our communities. The much anticipated Coastlands Aquatic Centre finally opened on Saturday. My family and I checked out the facilities and my kids love it and are keen to go back again soon. Their favourites were the hydroslide and the dragon inflatable in the programmes pool.

There's been a lot happening all over Kapiti today, Saturday 9th March 2013. I visited a handful of the events and a fun time was had by all. Hopefully you all had a chance to enjoy the sun and one of the events happening in the area.

If you were at the Teddy Bears Picnic with BJ Bear at Southwards in Otaihanga today you may have seen me at the Kapiti Kids Connect stall next to Plunket down the back of the field.  I had a free cup & ball game for kids giving away lollipops and balloons and I also had a competition running to guess how many Pascall Jaybees Jellybeans were in the giant jar. It was a perfect Kapiti day with the sun shining and lots of great entertainment for the kids to enjoy along ...

I hadn't actually taken my kids on a Christmas lights tour in Kapiti before, but I soon saw that they had been missing out! The displays that people have put on were absolutely amazing and truly are a must see Christmas activity. It will definitely now be an annual family occasion.

I took the family along to the Kapiti Food Fair. There were heaps of stalls to look around - there really was something for everyone with all of the different things for sale and activities for the kids to do. Lindale Farm, face painting, a bouncy castle and a merry-go-round were all available for the kids as well as the entertainment to keep them happy in-between food and looking around the stalls.

My family and I headed down to the Strawberry Festival Family Fun Day at Maclean Park in Paraparaumu Beach on Saturday. The weather was absolutely perfect for the event and there were loads of things to keep everyone occupied and well fed.

The fact that Guy Fawkes come around just once a year makes it pretty special and the kids just love being able to stay up late and watch a fireworks display. My family decided that we'd head along to the Kenakena School Fireworks Fantasia fireworks display.

Waikanae Pool is a great spot for a picnic and a swim on a lovely summers day. The outdoor heated pool is open over the summer months and includes a large pool, smaller toddlers' pool, hydroslide, and a large grassed area.
