Fun at the Beach

8 December 2009 No Comment

kapiti at sunset We’re so lucky on the Kapiti Coast to have the beach on our doorstep.  If you’re short of ideas of things to do with your children (aka energiser bunnies) why not head to the beach.

AT THE BEACHKapiti Shells

  • Organise an early dinner at home, then take a walk together along the Otaki, Waikanae, Raumati or Paekakariki beach,
  • Have a game of family cricket or touch.
  • Draw a track in the sand and have a mini Olympic 10 – 100m sprints – depending on how little their legs are!
  • Using the same track pair children up and a wheel barrow race – you know the one. One holds the ankles while the other walks on their hands
  • Grab a stick each and draw portraits of each other in the sand.
  • Go on a drift wood hunt and build a family sculpture – make sure you’ve got a camera with you to send us a photo of your efforts!
  • Get a fire permit from the Kapiti Coast District Council and have a bonfire with friends
  • Shell hunt – a prize for whoever finds the most interesting coloured/shaped/ sized shell
  • Make a sand sculpture – parents can have a bit of fun with this and set them a challenge of what object to make.vikingcruiserspic
  • Get your children to dig their way to China – sure to tire them out!
  • Find 4 large sticks, plant them in the ground to make goal posts and have a game of soccer – and why not ask other children playing nearby to join in!
  • Collect driftwood, shells and other natural objects from the seaside and take them home to make a collage or art piece.

There are some FANTASTIC EVENTS coming up at the beach this summer on the Kapiti Coast. Be sure to check them out and mark them on your calendar!!

Have your say!
